A café could become part of the major redevelopment of Quayside if planners back a change of use for a building on the site.

Applicant TJ Morris Ltd, which operates Home Bargains and was granted planning permission to redevelop the disused site into a discount store last summer, now wants to change the use of part of the site, unit B, from retail use to a café.

The unit hugs the eastern wall of the Quayside site and is opposite to Retail Unit A which will house the Home Bargains store.

Works would include adding two windows to the west elevation and creating an outdoor seating area to the south of the building.

This would complement the 20,000sqft store, garden centre and car park which the applicants say could create 100 jobs.

Works on the site began earlier this summer, with adjacent houses being renovated to be brought back into the housing market.
