The new sessions have come about following feedback from members, some of whom found the current evening meetings challenging.

These new get-togethers are in addition to the charity’s current evening support sessions, which take place at 19:30 on the third Thursday of each month and often include a guest speaker, sharing experience and advise.

The sessions are hosted by the charity’s volunteers, who provide invaluable support and insight into the many ways that cancer can affect the lives of islanders.

The first morning session takes place at 10:30 at Les Cotils on Thursday 2 September. “We have considered holding a morning meeting for some time,” said Guernsey Cancer Support Chair, Gill Syvret-Berboda.

“Having spoken to our members, they suggested that this would be more feasible for many members of the community. Circumstances can often mean that people are too tired to attend of an evening, particularly when going through treatment or struggling with their health, especially as the evenings become colder and darker.”

The morning sessions will take place on the first Thursday of each month and have been made possible following a donation from, JT Guernsey, who chose the group as their charity for 2021.

The donation will go towards the room hire and refreshments for members at the monthly meetings.

“Guernsey Cancer Support is a very special and unique charity, made up of people who have walked in the shoes of those now seeking their support,” said Deputy Managing Director, JT Guernsey, Tamara O’Brien.

“They offer a lifeline to individuals and families in need and as a local business, we are immensely proud to be their partner and support their vital work.”
