The initiative has been sponsored by Guernsey Post and was also supported by the Guernsey Dairy and the Guernsey Hamper Company, who have created Red Cross-style packages.

The residents will now be able to enjoy an afternoon tea while they celebrate the 76th anniversary of Liberation Day.

“All Guernsey residents celebrate Liberation Day,” said Deputy Sue Aldwell from the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture.

“This year we wanted to make a gesture of kindness to our elderly residents living in care homes on the island.

“With restrictions last year and a different approach for Liberation Day events this year, we wanted to ensure that the older generation, some of whom can’t easily leave their homes, are involved in the Bailiwick celebrations.”

The Head of Corporate Engagement at Guernsey Post hopes it puts a smile on many faces.

“We are so pleased to be able to do our part this Liberation Day,” said Dawn Gallienne.

“We understand the importance of looking after our elderly generation, especially on such a poignant day in history for them,” she added.
