Castel Primary School is on the lookout for a new headteacher, after Pete Curtis was appointed to lead Amherst Primary School from January.
Mr Curtis will take up the post on 1 January, replacing Gary Hind, who is retiring.
He leaves Castel after 14 years at the school, having worked in a variety of roles in primary education across Guernsey and the UK.
Mr Curtis, who became head of Castel in May 2021, said he “thoroughly enjoyed” his time at the school, adding that it had been “an absolute privilege”.
He thanked the children, staff, parents and carers for their support, adding that he was confident the school was in safe hands with deputy headteacher Sally Dawber.
Mrs Dawber will become acting headteacher for the spring term while the Education Office recruits a permanent replacement, who is due to start at Easter 2027.
Mr Curtis said he was “honoured” to be joining Amherst, adding: “It is a school with many strengths, and I look forward immensely to contributing to its future success.”
Kim Hutchison, Head of Primary Leadership and Development, praised Mr Curtis’s leadership, dedication and care for the Castel community.
She said the Education Office was confident his experience would help Amherst continue to flourish, while Mrs Dawber would provide strong leadership during the transition at Castel.
