The work is being undertaken following the deterioration of the wall in recent years. This has been blamed on a defective surface water drainage system.
Guernsey Ports’ Commerical and Infrastructure team has designed the reconstruction and will be managing the works.
The work should be completed by “late 2023”, will cost an estimated £400,000 and is being undertaken by a local contractor “following a competitive tender process”.
Joe Armstrong is the Project Manager at Guernsey Ports, he said: “The works will involve the construction of a piled reinforced concrete ground beam on which a new granite retaining wall will be reconstructed and the area backfilled and resurfaced.
“Once completed, the appearance of the wall will match that of the existing structure. The opportunity will also be taken to improve the surface water drainage systems in the area.”
