As plans progress for a by-election in Guernsey, Sark has shown how it can be done with a 56% turn out at the island’s polls this week.
With Sark’s small population of around 500, and anyone over 16 able to register to vote, that means 210 people had their say, with four spoilt papers.
Sark’s voters had four candidates to choose between for just two seats on Chief Pleas, following the resignation of former Conseillers Andrew Miller and Ben Harris.
Mr Miller stepped down in January for personal reasons, while Mr Harris resigned in October last year citing leadership problems.
Joseph Perrée was the poll topper in yesterday’s by-election to replace them, receiving 152 votes. Michael Lanyon came second with 97 votes. Both men will now serve in Chief Pleas until January next year when a general election is due to be held.
Sébastien Moerman and Antony Dunks were unsuccessful in the election receiving 96 and 49 votes respectively.

Sark next goes to the polls in April to elect a Deputy Speaker of Chief Pleas.
Nominations will be accepted during March.
