Ben is encouraging Guernsey people to swap their supermarket selection boxes for something a little closer to home this festive season.
His shop in Mill Street is offering a wide range of festive chocolate flavours, including mixed spice, homemade sloe gin and pear with cinnamon.
“We’re doing baubles and reindeers and chocolate CDs and things like that,” he explained. “We’ve got a new chocolate snowflake and the baubles are new this year.”
Christmas is always extra busy for Ben because he doesn’t use any additives or preservatives in his fresh chocolates, so they have a much shorter shelf life than some of those in the supermarkets. That means customers can’t pre-buy their gifts and it often results in a rush just before the big day.
“We look at what other people are doing around the world and then we might get an idea from someone else,” he added. “It’s keeping an eye of what everyone else is doing. We might try someone else’s chocolate and get an idea of our own to do something different.”

Ben set up the shop in Mill Street seven years ago after training as a pastry chef and has been trading successfully in the island ever since.
He recently received global recognition, picking up his first Gold at the International Chocolate Awards.
