Islanders are being warned to stay alert after scammers began circulating emails mimicking official messages from the States of Guernsey.

The Revenue Service said it has become aware of scam emails claiming to be from the States, designed to look almost identical to genuine correspondence sent to taxpayers.

Unlike previous scams, officials said this version is “more sophisticated:, with branding and formatting that closely resemble real Revenue Service emails.

However, a key giveaway is the sender’s email address, which is not a legitimate States of Guernsey address.

Residents are being urged not to click on any links or attachments, and not to reply to the emails.

ADVICE…

  • Check the sender’s email address – Genuine Revenue Service emails will only come from noreply.revenueservice@gov.gg or another address ending @gov.gg.
  • Do not click links or attachments in emails you are unsure about.
  • Do not reply to suspicious messages claiming to be from the States of Guernsey.
  • Help spread the warning, especially to anyone who may be more vulnerable to email scams.
  • If you’ve already engaged with the email, contact your bank’s fraud team immediately and start a report via the Action Fraud website.
  • Check official guidance on Revenue Service correspondence here.
