The company which produces both Wheadon’s Gin and Indica Rum is currently distilling only in Jersey while work is ongoing to open a new base in Guernsey.

The award was announced last week with the CI Liquor Co saying, “we are delighted to be recognised for this award”.

Using local ingredients in its distillations, it added: “…our tastings continue to spread the message of ‘Drink Local’ and our reviews speak for themselves!”

Launched by Luke Wheadon in Guernsey, the Wheadon’s Gin company joined with Jersey restauranteur Mark Taft to launch The Channel Islands Liquor Company in 2018.

Since then, the company has expanded beyond its initial distillery at the former Bella Luce Hotel.

The Jersey Sail Loft distillery is based at South Pier Harbour in St Helier, where the team offers experiences including tastings.

Mr Wheadon said: “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised by Tripadvisor as one of their top attractions worldwide.

“The team in the Jersey distillery offer a unique and interesting experience and we are very proud of their work and this recognition.”

The plan is to offer the same high quality services at a new distillery in Guernsey.

The Vivier Bunker on the Fisherman’s Quay in St Peter Port was identified as a potential location as part of the wider seafront enhancement project.

The planned move arose when the site was one of a handful offered to the public for ideas to revamp underused areas in St Peter Port. That coincided with the closure of the Bella Luce Hotel which is in the process of being redeveloped by new owners.

The former fuel store near the Slaughterhouse was one of the sites identified as a new location for a production and bottling facility along with a tasting bar.

A planning application to convert the bunker into a distillery and bar was granted in March on a temporary basis for five years.
