Elizabeth College won all three rounds however, beating every other island primary and secondary school with its year six, year eight and sixth form teams.

Its Junior School came out on top of the other 13 primary schools in the island in the Year Six round.

In the year eight category, which took place yesterday afternoon, Elizabeth College also came out on top over the other secondary schools, with La Mare de Carteret High in second place. Those two schools are now going into the finals against Jersey later in the year. The sixth form round was also won by EC, beating The Ladies College in the final. 

The Year Six rounds started with two heats of seven schools each, and then the top two from each heat went head to head in a four way final at the end of the morning. That final ended with Elizabeth College taking first with 21 points, Castel in second on 14 points and Forest Primary in third with 13.

Will Czarnecki, 10, and Harry Smith, 11, were two of the members of the winning Elizabeth College Junior School team.

Their team was chosen after a series of qualifying rounds in their classes, that eventually narrowed it down to the top four representatives the school had to offer.

“We didn’t do a huge amount of practice, I suppose we did some on the buzzers and we all did a little bit of work at home,” Will said, “it was fun to take part and feels good to win”. 

Harry added, “it was really nerve racking but also a great experience that I think we will remember for a long time. We had some really good competition as well – that made it even more fun. Some of Will’s answers were so good, I couldn’t believe he knew them.”

The winning Year Six, Year Eight and Post-16 teams will go on to compete in the Inter-Island De Putron Challenge final in Guernsey against the winning Jersey teams at the Old Government House on Tuesday 27 November.
