Domino’s Pizza has started looking for staff to run its new outlet in Guernsey.

The job centre advertisements on gov.gg show two current vacancies – for a Store Manager and a Shift Manager.

Both positions promise a “fun, busy, and fast-paced environment” to work. Different levels of experience are needed for both roles, with the Store Manager paid up to £23 an hour and the Shift Manager up to £21 per hour.

While no opening date is given, the adverts say Domino’s is ‘COMING SOON to Guernsey!!’ with job applications welcome at dominosiom@gmail.com.

When it is open, the new takeaway restaurant will be at the Coop’s Longstore Locale store.

A planning application for the change of use of the site was approved last year meaning the Coop could reduce the size of its supermarket to allow space for the new takeaway in the same building.

The plans showed that a change in the layout of the Longstore Localé would free up space at the front of the shop – facing St George’s Esplanade and the sea – that will be used for a takeaway kitchen, serving area, and customer seating.

That work was approved, with building work ongoing to reduce the footprint of the Coop store to 2,600 square feet, while the new takeaway will cover around 1,800 square feet of the floor space.

A partition is being created to divide the takeaway from the food shop.

When it was considering the planning application the DPA had been concerned over the new takeaway’s proposed opening hours.

In its planning application, the Coop said it would be open between 11:00 and 23:15 Sunday – Thursdays, and between 11:00 and 01:30 on Fridays and Saturdays.

The DPA said this would be ok.

“The operating hours are dependent on the nature of the proposed business, which in this case has been identified as selling pizza but the full details of the proposed business have not been forthcoming.”

In responding to concerns about the opening hours, the DPA has said that there will be no public access after 23:00 on any day, suggesting the service will be delivery only if it does stay open after that time on Fridays and Saturdays.

Other concerns were raised about noise and odour coming from the new takeaway and the DPA said those have to be proven to have been addressed before the new pizza parlour can open.

Domino’s first opened in 1960 in Michigan, USA – initially called ‘DomiNick’s’.

It expanded across the world, including opening its first UK store in 1985 and in Jersey in 2017.

There are two Domino’s in Jersey – the first opened in St Helier, with a second following in the west of the island in 2023.
