Guernsey Police, Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service, Ambulance and Rescue Guernsey, Guernsey Coastguard, the Inshore Lifeboat, Cliff Rescue, and the Civil Protection volunteers have all contributed to the safe return of two off-path-adventurers.
A dog sparked the emergency response when it ventured down the cliff face on Guernsey’s south coast this morning.The person walking it was the one who contacted emergency services shortly before 10:00, prompting the full scale emergency response.
According to Gary Van Der Linden, Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service’s fire safety manager, “they did everything right.”
“The in-shore rescue boat used a drone to help us with the rescue attempt. Which worked really well,” he said.
The rescue effort was focused on the cliff path south of Chateau Des Tielles Nursing Home, in Torteval.
Mr Van Der Linden was pleased to say there were no injuries to report.
This was echoed by a spokesperson for the emergency services who confirmed that “one person was rescued from the cliff face and was brought back to the top”.
They had suffered “no injuries as a result” and all emergency service personnel and volunteers left the scene just over an hour after the call for help had been made.
The area was reopened to the public shortly after 11:00.
