A group of Deputies are meeting this afternoon to discuss their concerns and prepare an amendment to the Policy & Resource Plan, which the States is debating in a couple of weeks time.

This proposal in the P&R Plan is regarded by some Deputies as a form of executive government.

Before the meeting, Deputy Michelle Le Clerc said this was one of the things that States members had taken issue with.

“There is a resolution in there that is proposing to look under the Reform Act 2015 to devolve more power in effect to certain committee members that are working on sub-committees,” she said.

“That is a very different way to how committees work at the moment – you cannot agree something with another committee without the support of your committee – and it could be executive government by the back door.

“I personally think it is a step too far and several other deputies are not happy.”
