Jackie Hughes will retire after seven years as Executive Principal of The Guernsey Institute this summer.

Having joined the organisation in 2019, for an initial two year period, Ms Hughes (top right) previously told Express that she was confident she would see the new Guernsey Institute campus built at Les Ozouets.

That building work is underway, with staff and students now expected to move in next year, after her retirement.

Her replacement – and former Principal of the College of Further Education – Louise Misselke (top left), will have the honour of being in charge of the new facilities when they finally open.

Ms Misselke will be supported by a new leadership team including Deputy Principal Jeanette Hart, who will be responsible for Central Services.

Tracey McClean will be Dean of TGI University Centre and Simon Le Tocq will continue in his role as CEO of the GTA, part of TGI Business School.

The role of Deputy Principal responsible for Further Education Curriculum & Quality is currently vacant and will be advertised shortly.

Nick Hynes, Director of Education, said the new team is part of the wider implementation of the new model of secondary and post-16 education planned for Guernsey, which brings together TGI College, TGI Business School, TGI University Centre and TGI Apprenticeships.

“This announcement marks another important step in the transformation of post-16 education in Guernsey,” he said. “I would like to wish the TGI senior leadership team every success as they take up their new responsibilities or continue in their existing roles.

“The end of this academic year also marks the retirement of TGI’s Executive Principal, Jacki Hughes. Jacki joined TGI in 2019 with the intention of staying for just two years; fortunately for us, that commitment extended to seven. Her leadership, dedication and contribution to post-16 education have been invaluable, and I would like to thank her sincerely for everything she has achieved during her time with us. We wish her every happiness and success in her next chapter.

“And on the subject of next chapters, we look forward to TGI’s move to its new home at Les Ozouets next year. With construction continuing to progress well, it is clear that the new campus will provide an outstanding learning environment and create exciting opportunities for current and future generations of learners.”
