A Guernsey family will be walking seven miles across ten iconic London bridges for the third time on Sunday to raise money for Lymphoma Action.

It is a cause close to the heart of Ted Gilbert, who is now in remission from lymphoma after receiving treatment for the condition following his diagnosis in 2022.

Lymphoma is the UK’s fifth most common cancer.

Team ‘Ted vs. lymphoma’ have already raised £645 for the only charity in the UK dedicated to this type of blood cancer.

“Ted’s lymphoma diagnosis came out of the blue and it has been a long, emotional process for the whole family” said his wife, Lisa Gilbert.

“I first came across the Bridges of London walk in 2023 and signed us up in the hope that Ted’s treatment would work and he would be able to make it to London to finish the walk.

“I felt that we needed something to look forward to, and during Ted’s months of chemotherapy we kept that challenge in our sights.”

They’re all looking forward to taking part in the Charity’s Bridges of London event to raise funds and awareness about lymphoma, said Mrs Gilbert.

“We wouldn’t miss Bridges of London for the world,” she said.

“Our highlights will be meeting others taking part and seeing all the volunteers who help run it all again.

“It’s a bright light in our calendar, when we can reflect on everything that’s happened. We are so thankful for Ted’s medical team and Lymphoma Action for getting us through.”
