A scheme trialling blue badge parking spaces at coastal locations could turn permanent, if there’s enough demand and support for the idea.

Guernsey’s Traffic and Highway Services want feedback from the public – including those who use and those who don’t use blue badge parking spaces – before any decision is made.

An online survey has been launched and feedback can also be given by contacting the States Disability Officer, Gill Evans, by email or phone.

The temporary new spaces have been installed at Les Amarreurs, Bordeaux, Chouet, Fort Hommet, Grandes Rocques, L’Ancresse (East), L’Eree (North and South), Petit Bot, Port Soif, Richmond Kiosk, Rousse, Cobo (South), Jerbourg, Icart, the South Esplanade, and Saumarez Park (North and South).

Ms Evans said the trial was to see how often the spaces are used, because the benefits associated with easy access to our shore is well documented.

“We all know how important being outdoors is for our mental health. This can be challenging for those with a disability, particularly those with mobility impairments.”

Ms Evans continued: “The introduction of these blue badge spaces in some key areas around the coast will enable more people to get out and about to enjoy these areas, and we want to make sure we have consulted with the public before assessing where they can be best utilised.”

The survey on the new spaces is available online HERE, or you can email comments to DisabilityOfficer@gov.gg, or call Ms Evans on 01481 222897.

The deadline is 14 September 2025.
