The third annual Guernsey Chalk Art Festival is being held this Saturday.

The free event is staged by Ross Le Brun, an accomplished artist who wants to encourage others to express themselves creatively too.

Mr Le Brun first hosted a Chalk Art Festival in Saumarez Park in 2023, before it returned last year due to popular demand.

This time it’s back at Saumarez Park again, with hundreds of chalks ready for the children and older artists to use.

Mr Le Brun said the chalk art event is free for everyone to attend “to enjoy a chilled day of just drawing on the floor and picnics”.

He said there is an element of competition to the day, but everyone is welcome of all abilities and he’s happy to offer tips and advice to fellow artists too.

“We do judge the best efforts and stop taking entries for that at 3pm but you are welcome to continue beyond that,” he said.

“Artists of all ages and abilities welcome,” he added.

“Let’s turn the park into a canvas and bring a centuries-old tradition back to life—one chalk stroke at a time.”

The Chalk Art Festival runs from 10:00 with limited parking available, so those who are able to are asked to walk, cycle, take a bus, or car share to the park.

People taking part are encouraged to bring picnics and drinks, and any pictures to help with their artwork.

Volunteers are also needed to help ensure the day runs smoothly.
