With no active cases of covid-19 in the Bailiwick and no new cases for a month, members of the emergency and health care services also paused to clap for the final time, before resuming their duties.
Staff from the Princess Elizabeth Hospital and other health and care facilities, St John Ambulance, Guernsey Police and Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service gathered outside the hospital – which has been decorated with a newly painted rainbow by Dowding Signs.
A spokesperson for St John said they were clapping for everyone who had been involved in the community efforts to defeat covid-19.
“We’d like to extend our show of support and appreciation to all care staff, key workers, the staff at Public Health, Health & Social Care, the States of Guernsey and everyone else across the community who have done their bit to tackle the corona virus and been part of #GuernseyTogether.”
Homes across the islands also showed their appreciation for those involved in the frontline fight against corona virus.
Many people had taken the time each Thursday evening for the last ten weeks to clap.

Founder of the Clap for Carers in the UK, Annemarie Plas had said before last night’s clapping that she thought it should be the final one.
She would instead like it to be an annual event.
