In a video released by Lead Nurse of Unscheduled Care Valter Fernandes, masked doctors, nurses and other health staff can be seen applauding and whooping, as the man is pushed in a wheelchair past the reception area of Plemont Ward of Jersey General Hospital.
“It’s great to see one of our COVID-19 patients, who only recently was in intensive care, leaving hospital today,” Mr Fernandes tweeted alongside the video.
Chief Nurse Rose Naylor also features in the video, in which the man touches his heart and waves in response.
He mouths “thank you” to one staff member, who in return tells him, “Take care of yourself.”

The latest government statistics show that 256 islanders are deemed to have recovered from the virus, while three islanders are still being treated in hospital for it.
The positive news comes as Jersey prepares to clap for carers again this evening at 20:00.
The initiative aims to celebrate the efforts of all frontline staff in battling the covid-19 crisis in Jersey.
