Thousands of people may still need to submit their 2023 Income Tax returns before the end of today.
By Wednesday the Revenue Service had received an estimated 35,000 forms, out of an estimated 40,000 due.
Last year, staff received 29,000 in total, out of an estimated 33,000 expected by the deadline for submitting 2022’s returns.
The increase in the number expected to be returned for 2023 is down to the decision to assess married couples separately, and population growth.
The Revenue Service has been trying to encourage people to submit 2023’s returns online, saying it is quicker for both the customer and staff. This can be done at gov.gg.
For customers who still need or wish to use paper forms, they’ve been available from Edward T Wheadon House and a few other locations around the island. Paper forms can be returned to Wheadon House which is open until 16:00 today.
Anyone who hasn’t submitted their 2023 Income Tax return by today’s deadline could face an immediate penalty of £200 with daily penalties of £10 added until the return is submitted.
Numerous people have been trying to submit their 2023 returns this week as today’s deadline approached with queues reported to be “down the stairs” and “out the doors” at Wheadon House, where the Revenue Service is based.
