It’s reported that sparks from an angle grinder being used in work to dismantle the vinery started the fire during the afternoon.

The Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service was on the scene at Rue Des Marettes for around four hours, while police and civil protection volunteers kept motorists and pedestrians away by blocking off access at surrounding lanes and roads.

An 250 by 50 metre area of land at the vinery site was damaged in the blaze, but vehicles parked at the site were kept protected and no injuries were reported among people or livestock.
