People are allowed to collect ormers on specific days between 1 January and 30 April – the day of each new moon, full moon and the two days following them.

The full moon on 30 December means that New Year’s Day is a permitted day for ormering. Information on tomorrow’s tides can be found HERE

The minimum size for retaining ormers is 8cm, measured along the longest axis of the shell.

Sea Fisheries has advised everyone ormering to carry a proper measure and to return any undersized ormers immediately.

“Sea Fisheries Officers will again be carrying out routine coastal patrols this year and any person found to be in possession of undersized ormers will be liable to prosecution,” said a spokesman.
