Harbour authorities have been left to clear up broken glass, fishing hooks, and other rubbish that was dumped next to an overflowing bin at the Castle Lighthouse.
The rubbish was found yesterday morning – before it had been blown into the sea.
The bin itself was already full, with Guernsey Ports asking anyone using the area – which is popular with people walking or fishing – to dispose of their rubbish responsibly.
The bin had been emptied “just prior to the weekend”, according to a States spokesperson.
A second bin has been put on the breakwater, near the Lighthouse, said Mike Harris, Guernsey’s Assistant Harbour Master.

He said Harbour staff “appreciate that the Castle Breakwater Lighthouse is a popular fishing spot” and that they want “people to continue enjoying the area responsibly”.
However, he said the littering can’t be allowed to happen.
“The safe disposal of fishing gear is particularly important, as discarded hooks, lines and other waste can cause injury to people and harm to wildlife,” he said.
“If a litter bin is full, we would ask people to take any general waste to the nearest bin instead, which in this case is the landward side of the Castle Bridge.
“Taking a few extra moments to dispose of waste responsibly helps keep the area safe and tidy for everyone else.”
