With two weeks to go until the 80th anniversary of the Channel Islands liberation from Nazi occupation, further details are being released about how Guernsey will mark the occasion.

The commemorations and celebrations will include a number of flypasts over St Peter Port and the east coast, and the whole island, performed by a fleet of Second World War aircraft.

An RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team will appear at L’Eree as part of the St Peter’s parish celebrations.

A ‘Meet the Pilots’ event will be held at Guernsey Airport on Thursday 8 May, giving people a chance to see the aircraft up close too.

The static display will be held at Guernsey Airport, on the East Apron, with a Hawker Hurricane, Harvard, C-47 Ready 4 Duty, Channel Islands Air Search, ‘Junior Joey’, Airport fire tender, and a number of Military vehicles all expected to be present.

The Liberation Day Flypasts will take place throughout Friday 9 May giving people across Guernsey the chance to view the planes in the sky above.

At 11:35, the P8A Poseidon (pictured top) will fly along the east coast, followed by an Airbus A400M Atlas at 11:45.

Between 14:15 and 14:30, a Hurricane and Harvard will complete two laps of the island, followed by an Douglas C-47 Skytrain between 14:35 and 14:45.

At 15:30 the RAF Falcons will perform their Parachute drop on to L’Eree bay, where hundreds – possibly thousands – of people are expected to gather for the parish events to mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.

Then at around 19:00, a Spitfire MK9 will perform a flypast along the east coast (the exact timing is to be confirmed).

That evening there will also be a drone show in St Peter Port before the fireworks.
