Four “young people” were arrested and released on police bail after a bin was set alight at the old BMX track in the grounds of Beau Sejour.

Guernsey Police confirmed the action on Wednesday, and said enquiries into the fire – which happened on Tuesday night – “are ongoing”.

A number of emergency service vehicles were seen at Beau Sejour while the Fire and Rescue Service dealt with the blaze. There were no reported injuries and any damage caused was not significant.

A Bailiwick Law Enforcement spokesperson said: “Last night police attended Beau Sejour following reports of a bin being set on fire on the old BMX track to the north of the building.

“While no significant damage was caused, four young people were arrested, and have since been bailed. Enquiries into this incident are ongoing.”

The leisure centre is busier than usual this week with the annual Eisteddfod underway.

Comments on social media from those in the area suggest that the fire caused a ‘foul smell’ likely caused by plastic melting.
