Up to £31,000 can be spent on upgrading child disability facilities after the States unlocked cash which had been forgotten for nearly two decades.

The money was part of an old charitable trust which supported the long closed Castel Hospital – but it was forgotten by the States for years after a change in personnel in the civil service in 2009.

Deputy Tina Bury, President of Employment & Social Security, which managed the fund, said “a positive use of these funds can be put into action”.

The Croft will benefit from the cash. It supports children, families, and carers with additional needs. Around 35 families regularly use the service.

It offers day care activities, after school and weekend care, overnight stays, emergency interventions and home-based support.

The cash is likely to be used to upgrade equipment and furniture, sensory toys, handling equipment and to set up a therapy room.
