A local dementia charity is set to host a walk this weekend to raise awareness of those living with the condition.
Dementia is a syndrome associated with many neurodegenerative diseases, characterised by a general decline in cognitive abilities that affects a person’s ability to perform everyday activities. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause.
Dementia Jersey, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, is due to host a 5km walk from La Frégate to St Aubin on Sunday 28 September.
A charity spokesperson said: “Our memory walk is for those who have lost people who had dementia, those with family or friends currently living with the condition or people who simply want to take on a challenge and raise money for a good cause.
“This gentle, scenic walk is suitable for all ages and abilities. You can walk, jog, run, or even cycle – whatever suits you best.
“It’s about coming together as a community to support over 1,600 islanders living with dementia, along with their carers and families.”
Adult tickets cost £15 and children tickets cost £10. Pets are also welcome at the event.
