Huge crowds numbering several hundred smiling faces ended the spectacularly successful 2025 Alderney Week by parading through the streets of St Anne’s bearing tall candle-like torches.

Led by Town Crier Kevin Moore, Miss Alderney and the yellow coated Alderney Week organising team the procession weaved its way through the main streets and on to the Butes Playing Field at the top of the town overlooking Braye Harbour.

One by one the torches were cast on to a giant bonfire of pallets topped by this year’s symbols of ‘Wands At The Ready’  –  a top hat complete with a white rabbit and two giant magic wands.

As the fire died down, the fireworks started and the huge passenger liners on the horizon would surely have seen the sky light up across the English Channel.

Everyone in the crowd had a smile and the exhausted organising crew said they had been thrilled to see all the joy and excitement that the week-long carnival of events  had brought to islanders and visitors alike.

One former States Member said that  during Alderney Week the northern isle functions like a well-oiled machine thanks entirely to its army of volunteers and the support of the local business community.

“Alderney certainly knows how to throw a good party…” he added.
