In his letter, Deputy St Pier sets out Guernsey’s long-standing relationship with the UK and the good working relationship Guernsey has enjoyed with his predecessors.
Deputy St Pier sought a commitment from Mr Johnson that the island’s needs would continue to be met, saying that a disorderly Brexit is not in Guernsey’s interests.
“We continue to work hard for all possible outcomes of the Brexit process and to ensure our domestic contingency plans are aligned to the UK’s own planning,” Deputy St Pier wrote. “I would like to take the opportunity to reaffirm Guernsey’s position that a disorderly UK exit from the EU would not be in Guernsey’s interests.”
Deputy St Pier said a brief meeting would be useful to discuss the island’s future relationship with the UK.
“While understanding that you will have many demands on your time, particularly at the moment, I would greatly value the opportunity to meet briefly with you to discuss how our strategic and economic relationship with the UK can develop as part of the British Family once the UK has left the EU.”
