A family have been left wondering what’s happened after some of the items they had left at Fairfield ahead of a party were taken.
Sharon Brache was helping to arrange the event for her father’s birthday on Sunday when the mystery unfolded.
She had delivered some items, including a brand new gazebo in a box, to Fairfield in the Castel, before going to watch her father and other people doing the Castle Swim at Havelet.
When other family members arrived just one hour after Mrs Brache had delivered the items they found some were missing.
The pile of party equipment included chairs, children’s toys, and paper plates and cups for the picnic they had planned.
However, while most of the items remained the gazebo, a large plastic tub, and a storage stool, and a bag with the picnic plates and cups, were all taken.
Mrs Brache said it is a mystery to everyone involved as to who has taken them and why.
“We were holding a small surprise gathering for family to celebrate my dad’s 65th birthday after the castle swim on Sunday,” she explained.
“I dropped off some items at 10:00 to Fairfield including chairs, blankets, paper plates and cups etc, a large blue plastic tub to put drinks in, and a brand-new storage stool with a bag inside containing a bottle of peach vodka, napkins, a badge for my dad, and a bag of bubble wands for the children, and a brand-new gazebo my mum had bought to give my elderly grandmother some shade and to shade the picnic we had made. The gazebo was still in the box with my sister’s name and business address on it.
“I then left to go and watch my dad and family do the castle swim. When my mum returned at 11:00 with my husband and nephew to set the gazebo up and get ready for dad’s surprise the gazebo and tubs had disappeared.”

Mrs Brache posted on Facebook almost immediately to raise the alarm and to ask whoever had taken the items to return them.
It was suggested by other people on social media that the items may have been mistakenly cleared away by parish officials, or picked up by someone else thinking an event had been held and the items left behind.
However, despite asking on various Facebook groups for the items to be returned, they have not yet been said Mrs Brache.
The family party went ahead regardless and everyone had a wonderful time but the mystery continues.
“Thankfully we managed to shade my grandmother and the food with beach umbrellas and dad still had a great day dispute the items going missing,” said Mrs Brache.
“It’s ironic really as I saw a post on Facebook earlier Sunday morning regarding a backpack that had been left behind at North Beach and when the owners returned it was till there the following day,” she added.
