The Guernsey Construction Forum and the Guernsey Building Trades Employers Association have merged.
The two groups said they can “better serve” the construction industry by amalgamating the GCF into the GBTEA.
The GCF was therefore dissolved earlier this month but the work it did, primarily around government liaison, will continue as a sub-committee of the GBTEA.
The new Government Liaison Sub-committee will represent the GBTEA and its members, intending to support the construction industry as a whole. It will work with the States to ensure there is great cohesion between government and the construction sector.
“This will further strengthen our consistent approach and provide a singular representative voice on behalf of the construction industry,” said John Bampkin, Chairman of the former GCF.
“The GBTEA has been in existence for over 100 years and has over 120 of the island’s construction companies as its members. By amalgamating the GCF under the GBTEA the industry will have a democratically elected and representative body, to act on its behalf, as its government liaison resource.”
The new GBTEA Government Liaison Sub-committee is headed up by Mr Bampkin.
He will be supported by four ex-committee members of the Guernsey Construction Forum meaning that it is “very much business as usual in terms of the continuity of relationships that the GCF has built up with the States of Guernsey over the last four years,” the GBTEA and GCF said.
“John has been co-opted to this position with the full backing of the Executive and Council, and we look forward to the benefits John’s experience and knowledge will bring to the association.
“We see this as a highly positive step forward, one that promotes a unified voice for our industry, and strengthens our collective representation.”
