Members of Guernsey’s Rainbows, Brownies and Guides were invited to a special ceremony at Government House this week so they could receive their Gold Awards.
The Gold Award is the top accolade available for members of each section.
24 girls received these awards from Mrs Louise Cripwell, the Patron of Girlguiding Guernsey, with the girls inviting their families and leaders along with them.
Bailiwick Commissioner Colette Merrien said it was a lovely evening for everyone involved.
“We are so pleased that Mrs Cripwell agreed to present our awards again at Government House. The girls have worked so hard to achieve their badges and having them presented by our patron makes it a very special event for both the girls and their families and leaders.
“As well as all their badges the girls have had to undertake a challenge of their choosing and this year they have included Brownies teaching the rest of the unit how to do origami and organising a fashion show and Guides attending a camp in the UK. All of the girls have had to work hard to achieve their award and we are delighted that their accomplishments can be recognised In this special way.”
Rainbows is for girls aged 4 – 7, Brownies are aged 7 – 10, and Guides are between 10 and 14 years old.
The Gold Award is the top award for each section meaning the girls achieve the award by working at their own level.
The 24 girls who received their Gold Award this week each achieved six ‘Theme awards’ earning one interest badge, one skills builder badge and up to five hours of unit meeting activities in the themes of Taking Action, Skills for my Future, Know myself, Express myself, Be Well, and Have Adventures. They each then had to complete a final challenge.
