Pupils in Year 11 at the Grammar School and all other schools across the island were told to go in as normal though as the Sixth Form taster day has gone ahead as planned.

In a message posted by the States on social media, the school’s Headteacher said the closure was “due to circumstances beyond our control.”

It also means the Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh Parent Information Evening was cancelled in advance.

All school staff are on the site as normal, but based in the Sixth Form Centre.

By lunchtime the problem with the boiler had been fixed though, with the Headteacher, Keiran James, saying the school’s “Premises team worked into the early hours of this morning with a local contractor and, this morning, an engineer has visited, tested and approved the solution that has been put in place.

“The heating is now on and the fabric of the building is beginning to warm up, therefore, school will resume as normal tomorrow morning, Friday 25 January.”
