Not long ago, the GSPCA helped rescue four cats, all of which have Feline Herpes and the charity now needs help to continue supporting the four siblings.

Feline Herpes is a common, but highly contagious viral infection in cats that causes upper respiratory and eye problems, like sneezing, nasal discharge, and conjunctivitis.

Currently, there is no cure, but it is manageable, which includes supportive care, preventing secondary bacterial infections, and using antiviral medications for severe cases.

The disease was inherited from their mother, Daisy, and means that Spud, Tulip, and Daffodil all need a little extra care, and will need to be indoor-only at their forever home if the GSPCA can find them one.

Anna Paint, the Head of the animal charity’s Cattery, says they’re hoping the community will lend their support to the clutter.

“Daisy, Tulip, Daffodil, and Spud have had a tough start, but they’re full of love and character,” she said.

“They deserve safe, warm homes where they can thrive. We’re appealing to anyone who can help—whether through donations or adoption—to come forward and make a difference.”

One of the cats does require a little extra love and care, with Spud the kitten recently having recovered from a coma, and an emergency operation to clear a blockage.

The GSPCA is hoping to raise enough cash to cover the vet bills, which are expected to cost more than £700.

“Spud may be cheeky and naughty, but he’s also incredibly lovable,” said Ms Paint. “His antics bring joy to the team, and we know he’ll do the same for the right family. Please help us give Spud and his family the future they deserve.”

The GSPCA is appealing to the community to help care for the cats, by either donating to the animal charity to help cover medical costs and ongoing care, or by registering your interest in adopting Spud or his sisters, which you can do on its website HERE.

The charity’s manager, Steve Byrne, added: “Spud is a little miracle. From being in a coma to causing mischief and making us laugh, he’s a fighter with a huge personality.

“We’re doing everything we can to help him recover and he is currently at the vets, but we need the community’s support to cover his vet bills and find loving homes for him and his family.”
