MTG presents: Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me by Frank McGuinness
The latest production from Music Theatre Guernsey focuses on themes of captivity and liberation – and it takes place inside a German gun emplacement.
The Mirus Battery is hosting (courtesy of Festung Guernsey) MTG’s production of Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me by Frank McGuinness between Tuesday 29 April and Saturday 3 May. The play depicts the plight of three hostages being held in Beirut – an Englishman (Gavin McQue), an American (Jon Ozanne) and an Irishman (Simon De La Rue).
‘We’re delighted to be returning to the Mirus as a venue, after our previous success with One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest,’ said director Darren Alderton.
‘The formidable atmosphere inside the bleak concrete structure is a suitable setting for the story of three men fighting to retain hope through mutual support, vicious challenge and no small amount of humour.’
Performances are at 7.30pm each evening with an additional 2.30pm showing on Saturday 3 May.

Liberation Day at Castle Cornet

Guernsey Literary Festival 2025
Guernsey Literary Festival is back for 2025, with another inspiring lineup of events!
The festival not only celebrates great literature against the beautiful backdrop of Guernsey, but you can expect events featuring some of the world’s greatest writers, speakers and thinkers.
Curated with varied interests and ages in mind, the festival is a unique opportunity to come together to celebrate the written word with no barriers.

Art at the Park: An Exhibition by Frances Lemmon
Frances Lemmon’s ‘George Sand – The Feminist Troubadour’ will open on Wednesday 7th May at the Art at the Park Gallery, Saumarez Park.
Running until Friday 30th May, the exhibition will be a solo showcase of Lemmon’s striking artworks.
Frances has taken inspiration from the writings of George Sand – a contemporary of Victor Hugo – and has developed a series of paintings reflecting her ideas of women’s rights and equality through Frances’s own creative flair.
The Gallery is open from 10am until 5pm daily (not on Liberation Day though!), has free entry and is access friendly.
Festiva Liberation Day Concert
Come and join Festiva as they celebrate 80 years of Liberation, alongside 40 years of the choir and St James as a concert venue, under their musical director, Andrew Warren. They are joined by guests, including the local choir, the Kintsugi Singers.
The programme will include choral items and solo items, as well as the traditional Festiva ‘Last night of the Proms’ section.

The Liberation Trail
As Guernsey marks the 80th anniversary of its Liberation from German Occupation, a special experience has been launched to honour this defining chapter in the island’s history.
The Liberation Trail – which has been created in collaboration with a wide range of cultural and heritage partners – invites islanders and visitors to immerse themselves in the stories of those who endured, resisted, and ultimately rejoiced as freedom returned to Guernsey’s shores.
The commemorative Liberation Trail winds through the heart of St. Peter Port, revealing the island’s journey from wartime hardship to hope, resilience, and recovery. Through nine unique displays, located at key cultural and historical sites, those undertaking the trail can explore personal stories, historical artifacts and rarely seen photographs that bring the era vividly to life.
The Liberation Trail has been made possible through a collaboration between Guernsey Museum, Island Archives, the Guille-Allès Library, the Priaulx Library, Guernsey Arts, the Royal Court, and local historian Marco Tersigni, who together have crafted a compelling tribute to Guernsey’s wartime experience.
To help guide the journey, an illustrated Liberation Trail map highlights each of the nine display locations around St. Peter Port. Each stop on the trail stands alone, meaning trail participants can begin their journey wherever they choose and experience it at their own pace.
