Hannah Falla met Her Royal Highness Princess Anne at a recent event marking the 40th anniversary of the St John Ambulance National Cadet of the Year award.

The event marked four decades of celebrating the youth volunteers demonstrating excellence in first aid, leadership, and community service.

The Princess Royal was there in her official capacity as the Commandant-in-Chief (Youth) for St John Ambulance.

Princess Anne is a long-standing supporter of the organisation and frequently meets with young volunteers to recognise their contributions to public safety and healthcare, including Miss Falla who was there to represent St John Guernsey LBG as the Guernsey Cadet of the Year.

Miss Falla spoke directly with the Princess Royal, sharing the achievements of young people within the Guernsey branch.

She also met the very first National Cadet of the Year from 1987, Simon Stockhill, bridging the 40-year history of the award.

“On Friday 10th April, I had the honour of attending the National Cadet of the Year Competition 40th Anniversary Reception and it was an incredible day full of opportunities,” said Miss Falla.

“Throughout the event there were many remarkable guests present, and we had the opportunity to speak with several of them, as well as seeing the first NCOTY, which was a particularly special moment.

“Having the opportunity to both meet and speak with The Princess Royal was a particular highlight of the day. She asked me who I was, where I was from, about my experiences as the Guernsey Cadet of the Year, and what the competition had been like.

“The entire day was filled with unforgettable experiences and I will carry those with me for the rest of my life.”
