The Guernsey Ethics Committee is looking to recruit Health or Social Care Registrants as well as residents without professional health qualifications to support its work.

The post-holders support work to ensure clinical practices within Guernsey adhere to ethical standards.

Those who take on the responsibility, will have to review research proposals for ethical approval,  and provide ethical opinions on clinical situations and organisational policies.

Annual training will be provided, and meetings are held bi-monthly for two hours. These are held over a Wednesday lunch time and refreshments are provided.

There’s a set of requirements those applying will need to match in order to secure the membership, those being a relevant professional qualification for the roles, and interest in ethics, an ability to review research proposals, and be commitment to attending the meetings.

Dr Tracey McClean, is the Chair of Guernsey’s Ethics Committee.

“I have been a member of the Ethics Committee for many years and still consider it to be the most interesting and positive meeting that I attend. Members have the opportunity to develop their knowledge of research and clinical ethics, as well as contribute to the development of high-quality research in Guernsey.

“The production of evidence is essential for the delivery of efficient and effective services. The Ethics Committee has a key role to play in ensuring that any research study involving the local community is safe and robust.”

The closing date for applications is Friday 11 April, and if you’d like to apply for one of the vacant positions you can contact Dr McClean by email: tracey.mcclean@gov.gg
