The population change included a natural decrease of 32 people, meaning those who passed away compared to the number of babies born – while there was also a net migration of 274 people, equalling an overall increase of 242 people.

With a population of 62,307 by March 2018, the island has seen the biggest increase in the number of residents in more than three years.
Within that population, the number of people under the age of 15 has remained fairly static (a 0.1% increase) with the largest increase in age group for those between 65 and 84-years-old (2.2% up).
The number of people over the age of 85 actually fell last year with a 0.3% decrease.
