So far, the film has been met with high praise from those who got to attend the event, though official reviews are yet to start being released. Deputy Gavin St Pier who was there on behalf of the island described it as funny and superb.

Representatives from the States and VisitGuernsey attended the event and got to be some of the first to see the film, including Deputy St Pier and Economic Development Deputies Charles Parkinson and Andrea Dudley Owen – they have so far reported good things about the picture.

National media were drawn to both the reunion of former Downton Abbey stars Lily Stars and Jessica Brown Findlay and James’ dress, as the cast of the film starred on the carpet.

Attending the premier was James, who plays Juliet Ashton, Brown Findlay, Glen Powell, Michiel Huisman, co-author Annie Barrows and Mike Newell, the director.

The film is set to premiere to the public in cinemas on April 20, and there is also going to be a local black tie, red carpet premiere at Beau Sejour on Thursday 12 April, with many of the stars, including Lily James, set to attend in person.

She has been quoted as saying she is looking forward to the event and being able to visit the island.

There will then be a less formal event the following day.
