One of Guernsey’s most prominent health professionals, who has worked for both the States and charities, has received her British Empire Medal in a ceremony at Government House.
Gerry Le Roy was awarded the BEM in the 2026 New Year Honours for services to public health in Guernsey.
She received her medal from the Lieutenant- Governor, Lieutenant General Sir Richard Cripwell, in front of friends and family and fellow professionals at a ceremony on Thursday evening.
Mrs Le Roy BEM enjoyed a long career as a Cardiac Specialist Nurse, dedicated to the prevention of cardiovascular disease, along with rehabilitation, before becoming involved with tobacco control, notably through policy development, the Stop Smoking Service Quitline and the Guernsey Adolescent Smoking Project.
She has continued to work for the betterment of public health through the Cardiac Action Group which has been responsible for installing public access defibrillators across Guernsey.

His Excellency said “Mrs Le Roy’s work has transformed the healthcare landscape in Guernsey and directly saved many islanders’ lives”.
“She is an inspirational lady, and it gave me great pleasure to present her with the British Empire Medal on behalf of His Majesty The King.”
