A large turnout is expected at the common at L’Islet between 11:00 and 18:00 for a packed programme of events to celebrate The Queen’s 70 years as monarch.

The parishes’ douzaines have organised what they say will be a “fun family day out with a variety of activities and entertainment” – not dissimilar from the Millennium celebrations which they organised together on the same public land 22 years ago and which are fondly remembered by parishioners.

“The douzeniers organising have been busy putting together a programme of different events. The event will start at 11:00 and run through until 18:00. Throughout the day, there will be live music from local bands, food and drink stalls, children’s entertainment and competitions,” said parish officials.

“Alongside this, there will be a classic car display, a visit from Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service as well as what the organisers hope will be Guernsey’s longest street party with seating most of the way down La Route De L’Islet.

“The two douzaines are hoping that the event will be widely supported and attended as a chance to celebrate this historic occasion and will provide entertainment and enjoyment for all ages.”

A number of competitions have been planned, including a Jubilee-themed cake contest with entries requested to be taken to the Jamboree location at 11:00.

There is also a decorated carriage competition for bikes, prams or scooters with prizes awarded at 17:00.

The parishes have arranged for car parking to be available nearby – on a section of the common to the north of the Vale Church.

There will also be disabled parking even closer to the event for blue badge holders.
