La Grande Mare
The hotel is planning to reopen on 19 March, after its self imposed closure.

In a statement posted on its website, the hotel says it “coincides with other reports of norovirus elsewhere on the island”, however at this stage Express has not had any other affected locations confirmed.

The decision to close the hotel was made on Wednesday 4 March, after discussions with the Environmental Health Office. Although the hotel was not asked to close it decided to do so voluntarily “given the current climate”, in an apparent reference to growing concerns over coronavirus, which is a different type of illness which affects the respiratory system, as opposed to the digestive system as norovirus does.

La Grande Mare Golf Club and associated facilities and the health suite remain open while the main hotel facilities, such as the restaurant, bars and hotel rooms themselves are all closed.

The hotel’s statement confirmed it will reopen fully later this month:

“…on Wednesday 4 March we took the decision to close our rooms, restaurant and bars to business for the next 14-days.

“We have been working with the Environmental Health Office and although it has not requested the closure of the hotel, we feel, given the current climate, that this is a prudent and additional step to take.

“The hotel’s gym and leisure facilities as well as the driving range and pro-shop will remain open as usual, and the golf course will re-open as soon as weather permits.”

La Grande Mare Hotel staff all be contacting any customers with reservations for the restaurant or rooms directly, and it said; “we apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.”
