HSBC has made a £300,000 donation to support the Blue Marine Foundation, (BMF), and it’s work in protecting ocean habitats around Guernsey and Jersey.
Since 2010, the international marine conservation charity has been working to protect and restore life in the oceans around the world, with it’s mission to secure effective protection for at least 30% of the ocean by 2030.
In the Channel Islands, the charity has run educational programmes such as the Snorkel Trail, and the expansion of the ‘hand dived’ mark, which looks to promote and reward sustainable fishing practices.
Commenting on the donation, Warwick Long, the CEO of HSBC, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, said; “HSBC have a long-standing commitment to support the communities where we operate, and we are proud to help the Blue Marine Foundation deliver a range of initiatives designed to drive positive change that will benefit the marine environment for future generations.”
To date, the BMF has been involved in projects in 21 locations all over the world, including the Channel Islands.

Freddie Watson, Blue Marine’s Channel Islands Project Manager, said; “It’s great to have the support of HSBC, which enables us to deliver a wide range of initiatives, such as education and outreach, crucial research and championing sustainable fisheries.
“We hope to see both Bailiwicks paving the way for marine protection, supporting thriving coastal communities and biodiversity.”
The funding is split over three-years. It began at the end of 2024, and will be running through until 2028.
