A year and a half after it opened, the ‘home of Guernsey football’ is so busy on match days that new plans have already been drawn up to create extra space for refreshments, toilets, and merchandise.

A planning application has been submitted to put “a two-storey modular prefabricated shipping container” on the north-west corner of Victoria Park’s main pitch.

Victoria Park said the boxy new area would be available for use by Guernsey FC, other clubs using the pitch, and the public.

The first floor has been designed to include space for a secondary Guernsey FC clubhouse, while the “multi-functional space” on the ground floor will include a boardroom and an area for visiting club officials and dignitaries on match days.

“The idea is to give Victoria Park some much-needed extra space for busy match and event days,” said Rachel Rogers from local architectural practice, The Drawing Room.

“Container buildings are already being used successfully by football clubs across the UK as a cost-effective way of adding facilities, so it felt like a natural solution,” she explained.

“The two-storey clubhouse will provide additional bar and catering space, easing pressure on the existing clubhouse while creating a lively new focal point for supporters.”

Rob Jones, Victoria Park Director, said the new facility will add to what is already at Victoria Park – which opened in March 2025 as the first permanent home for the Guernsey FA and the home ground of Guernsey FC.

He said the board had identified that more room and facilities were needed for the football clubs using the ground, as well as the public.

“Since opening, Victoria Park has established itself as a fantastic home for Guernsey football, and we’re continually looking at ways to build on that success and improve the facilities we offer,” he said.

“As the stadium continues to grow as a sporting and community venue, it’s important that our facilities evolve to meet the needs of the clubs, players, officials and supporters who use them.

“This proposed development represents another positive step forward, providing much-needed additional space while creating new opportunities to enhance the match day experience.

“It’s a practical, cost-effective solution that will help us make even better use of the stadium, and we’re excited about the benefits it could bring.”

As well as being used by Guernsey FC and Guernsey FA’s senior sides, the pitch is used for local fixtures from grassroots all the way up to Muratti level.

Victoria Park itself has also proven to be a success as a community venue with ‘O’eh’sis’ performing there to a sell-out crowd this summer.

The local tribute act to Oasis have already announced they will be playing their ‘home stadium’ again in July 2027.

If the plans for the shipping container facilities are approved, Victoria Park expects them to be in operation for the start of the 2027 season in August.
