The confirmation came from Jersey’s Health Department this morning.
Doctors decided to carry out the test as a “precautionary measure” after the person started suffering a “flu-like” illness following a trip to a country affected by the highly contagious – and sometimes fatal – condition.
Speaking last week, Dr Ivan Muscat, Jersey’s Deputy Medical Officer of Health and consultant microbiologist, assured the public: “We are working to pick up any potential cases as quickly as we can and if they present with suspected symptoms, they can be tested as swiftly as possible.
“This is the same as in the UK and Europe, so we are mirroring best practice.”

Guernsey’s Health and Social Services Committee has released updated advice to people in the Bailiwick who have recently returned from countries affected by coronavirus.
That includes:
- Mainland China
- Thailand
- Japan
- Republic of Korea
- Hong Kong
- Taiwan
- Singapore
- Malaysia
- Macau
The general advice remains to practice self-hygiene by washing hands and disposing of tissues as soon as they have been used, and keeping any surfaces and touch points (like light switches) clean.
There are currently more than 30,000 recorded cases of the virus worldwide, and more than 800 deaths as a result.
