The Saints Chairman Ralph Krueger released a statement yesterday on the appointment, saying that the club was “really pleased” he agreed to accept the position.

Le Tissier signed for Southampton on the YTS scheme in 1985, moving from Guernsey to follow his dream as soon as he left school.

He stuck with the club throughout his career, playing in the midfield, becoming the club’s second highest goalscorer of all time.

Le Tissier retired in 2002 but still lives in Southampton and is vocal in his support for the club and receives support back from other fans of the club.
