The cost of sending a parcel to the UK weighing under one kilo will be frozen at £4.38, with heavier weights to have reductions in costs of between 20% and 50%.

A new 1.5kg price band for parcels will also be introduced which the post office says will “provide better value” alongside the “significantly” reduced costs for other packages.

Meanwhile, letters up to 100g sent domestically will increase to 65p, those sent to Europe £2.61, the rest of the world £4.29, while those sent to the mainland will cost £1.20.

Guernsey Post say the latter is 5p cheaper than it is in the UK through Royal Mail, and the hikes will be used to offset transport costs and fund the price cuts to parcel services.

All the changes will take effect from 3 January 2024.

Boley Smillie, Chief Executive of GPL, said the restructure aims to reflect changing customer behaviors with the post service.

“We continue to face unprecedented cost increases in our supply chain, and whilst we are reshaping our business to make sure we are as efficient as possible the cost of conveying product across the Channel and the price charged by our partners for delivering to international destinations continues to increase at inflation busting levels,” he said.

Guernsey Post also plans to cap the cost of returning parcels to the UK which weigh up to 10kg at £5, where the goods are purchased from UK based retailers where they don’t otherwise offer free returns.

A full list of the retailers captured by the policy, which is said to include Amazon, will be published in the coming weeks.

Mr Smillie said the service would satisfy customer feedback regarding an affordable returns service.
