The services at Maggie’s have been praised by two people from the Guernsey Friends of Maggie’s Fundraising Committee, Alison Good and the charity’s Chair Peter Walsh.
Peter got involved with the charity five years ago, and Alison more recently after her husband was diagnosed with cancer.
She said it offered her family a place of calm while her husband Mike went through treatment.
“They helped me find accommodation because it was very quickly evident that wasn’t just going to be there for a weekend,” she said.
“I was going to be there for the long term. So, they helped me in all manner of ways really.
“If you want to talk to somebody, that’s fine. They’ve got professional psychologists, as well as cancer specialists and trained psychologists who very much know what they’re talking about.
“But if you don’t want to talk to anybody, that’s fine, too.”
She said one particular moment stands out in her mind: “I’d been going in for a few months and I was emotionally exhausted, I hadn’t eaten, I hadn’t slept, and I walked in and one of the guys that work there he just sort of beckoned me, took me in a room, put a blanket on me and said, ‘sleep for a few hours’.
“He just knew what I needed.”
