The number of fixed penalty notices fell by almost 30% last year which was likely influenced by increased fines coming into force that summer.

11,003 parking fines were issued, down from over 15,000 in the previous two years.

The biggest drop came for Band A tickets, down 4,138, which cover minor offences like parking and disc violations.

Band B tickets, like not displaying learner plates, were down by around 250, while there were 8 fewer Band C tickets issued for offences like using a phone while driving.

The States agreed last January to increase parking fines for the first time in over a decade, and the new charges came into force in July.

Each band was increased by £25 – from £40 to £65 at the lower end to £125 at the top end.

The majority of parking fines continued to be paid within seven days in 2024, which carries a £10 discount.

The statistics, revealed in Bailiwick Law Enforcement’s annual report for 2024, also showed that traffic offences overall were marginally lower than the previous year.

Drink driving offences were slightly down on 2023.

Driving offences

The number of vehicle collisions fell by 35 in 2024 to 362, but one driver was killed in comparison to none the previous year.

Injuries increased by a quarter, however, with more drivers and riders sustaining slight injuries.

Five additional pedestrians also sustained slight injuries compared to 2023, but there were no serious injuries.

There was a 36% increase in speeding offences last year, up to 154.

17 additional provisional licence offences occurred, and there was a small increase in the number of vehicles with tyre defects.

But there was a notable reduction in drink driving, down to 80 from 96, and traffic sign violations were down by 74.
