The 35-year-old is alleged to have committed the assault on 8 August.
According to the Crown Prosecutor, the man turned on his partner at the end of a night out, hitting her to the side of the head and knocking her to the floor.
Advocate Jenny McVeigh said the defendant then hit her to the head “two or three times” and had her in a headlock.
When police arrived at the address, there were noticeable injuries to her neck and chest, which were captured on bodyworn footage.
The woman has since withdrawn her original complaint against the defendant.
The defendant – who has pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault – has been bailed with a condition not to contact the woman, ahead of a pre-trial review on 27 October.
